Judging
Judging of Baxterley in Bloom took place on Tuesday 24th JUly. Robin Russell and Roger Bache were escorted round the Village by Ann and Jim Pearson, with transport provided by John Stevens.
The tour started at the corner of Main Rd and Windmill Lane and went along Main Road to Carters then travelled to the church. They then returned to view the allotments where Pauline Knight was on hand to show them round. Robin talked his way into the shed to view Pauline's ancient machinery inherited from her dad.
A walk through the park followed. Plans for improved access were explained and eco-piles of logs, the result of NWBC cutting out dead and diseased trees, were pointed out.
The Bowls Club was next on the route and club members explained their work. The Votes for Women bed, WW1 Memorial and the Institute painting completed the tour.
In The Rose Inn Martin Stacey then gave a short talk on the work done over the year and plans for the future. This talk included a video of Baxterley produced by Ben Field and colleagues.
Several residents were present as were representatives of Jaguar Land Rover and NWBC and friends from outside Baxterley.
Refreshments were then enjoyed by all present and Roger thanked everyone for making the event so enjoyable. He and Robin then left to consider their judgement.
The result will not be known until the awards day at the National Brewing Centre in Burton on Trent on 20th September.
